RODRIGO TORRES, M.D.

Board Certified Ophthalmologist

Dr. Torres is a board-certified ophthalmologist who has been providing exceptional eye care since 2002.  Born in the U.S. and raised in the heartland of Iowa, he also enjoys a diverse cultural background; both of his parents are first-generation immigrants, one from Mexico and one from Argentina.  He has maintained fluency in Spanish, a gift he attributes to his parents, and one that has proved invaluable in providing the highest quality of care to many of his patients. He received his Bachelor of Science at the University of Iowa and went on to obtain his Medical Degree at Harvard Medical School.

He completed his Internship training at the Cambridge Health Alliance, also affiliated with Harvard Medical School.  His Ophthalmology Residency was completed at the prestigious Doheny Eye Institute at the University of Southern California.

Dr. Torres went on to complete a Fellowship in Glaucoma at the Devers Eye Institute in Portland, Oregon.  While in Portland, he served as a Clinical Instructor at the Oregon Health Sciences University, and as a Staff Physician at the Veterans Affairs Hospital.  He provided medical and surgical care throughout the Coachella Valley for two years while on staff at the Eisenhower Medical Center, serving as both a comprehensive ophthalmologist and a glaucoma specialist.

Dr. Torres is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the California Academy of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, the Los Angeles County Medical Association, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the Department of Ophthalmology at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, and a fellow of the American Board of Ophthalmology.

He has authored several medical publications and is a reviewer for the Journal of Glaucoma.  When asked why, as a physician, he chose to specialize in ophthalmology over all other medical specialties, his answer is simple; “It’s that smile you get when you help someone to see again.  There simply is nothing like it.”
